Forgot Facebook Account Password. How to Fix?

If you ever forget the password of your Facebook account or your account gets hacked by someone, you can easily overcome the problem by resetting the password of your Facebook account. Resetting the password of your Facebook account will not only help you regain access to your account but also prevent the hacker from having control of your account. However, to reset the password of your Facebook account, you must have access to the phone number or email address associated with your account. Access to your email address or phone number is important as it is required in order to verify your identity as the rightful owner of the account. In case you have access neither to your phone number, not email address, unfortunately, you will not be able to reset the password of your account, and thus, you will not be able to recover your Facebook account.

If you have access to your email address or phone number, you can reset the password of your Facebook account by following the step-by-step instructions provided below.

Steps to Recover Facebook Account Password

  1. On your computer, open a web browser and go to the Facebook sign-in page.
  2. Once you are on the Facebook sign-in page, you will need to locate and click on the “Forgotten Account” option located on the top right-hand side of your screen.
  3. As you will click on the “Forgotten Account” option, this will open a new window on your screen where you will be prompted to enter the email address or phone number associated with your account. This will help in searching your Facebook account.
  4. After entering your email address or phone number in the prompted field, you will need to click on the “Search” tab. This will direct you to the next window.
  5. On the next screen, you will be given the following account recovery options as mentioned below:
  • Send code via email
  • Send code via SMS
  1. As you will select any one of the options, a verification code will be sent to your phone number or email address (depending on the option selected).

NOTE: Before you select an option to receive the verification code, make sure to look at the profile picture displayed next to the account recovery options. If the profile picture is yours, you can select the options to complete the verification process. However, if the profile picture is not yours, you might have entered the wrong phone number or email address associated with your Facebook account. In such a case, you will need to click on the “Not You?” option located next to “Continue” tab. Doing so will take you back to the screen where you entered the incorrect email address or phone number. Again type your email address/phone number in the provide field and click “Search” button again. You will be shown your profile picture on the right-hand side of the account recovery options.

  1. Once you have verified the profile picture on the next screen, you will need to verify your identity as the rightful owner using one of the account recovery options.
  2. Once you receive the verification code on your selected account recovery option, you will need to enter the code in the provided field on the subsequent screen and click on the “Continue” button.
  3. On the next window, you will be prompted to enter your “New Password” in the provided fields.

NOTE: Make sure to use a combination of numbers, alphabets, and special characters when creating a new password for your Facebook account. Also, make sure that you do not use the same password for any other account.

  1. Once you are done entering the new password in the provided fields, you will need to click on the “Continue” button. The password for your Facebook account will be reset and you will be able to regain access to your account.
  2. After your password is reset, you will be prompted with the following two options:
  • Log out of other devices
  • Stay logged in

If you reset the password because you forgot it, you can keep the “Stay logged in” option selected, however, if you suspect that your account was hacked by someone, it is strongly recommended to select “Log out of other devices” option to block anyone else from having access to your account. After selecting the desired option, click on the Continue
  2. Then, on the next screen, you will be prompted to secure your account. So, click on the Get started You will be directed to the next screen where you will be prompted about the recent changes made to your account. Follow the on-screen prompts to secure your account and to get to News Feed of your account.

And, this is how you can reset the password of your Facebook account and regain access to it.
